Do you love the Orem Public Library? Are you looking for ways to serve the community? The city of Orem is currently taking applications for the Library Advisory Commission. Commission members provide library leadership with citizen input, as well as support library staff and help with library development and planning. 

The following is an overview of the Library Advisory Commission responsibilities from Section 2-10-2 of the Orem City Code:

The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide support, encouragement and citizen input into planning for the development and maintenance of a modern library system.
  • To take such steps as it may deem feasible to encourage grants or gifts in support of the public library.
  • To advise and give input on the development of a general philosophy and policies related to materials selection and use of resources.
  • To hear complaints regarding materials selection when a matter is referred to the Commission from the Collection Development Committee of the Library.

If you would like to join the Library Advisory Commission, you must be a resident of Orem and submit an application. The commission generally meets at 6 pm on the second Wednesday of every other month. The next meeting is March 9, 2022. Meetings have been held both in person and electronically.
