The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
By Taylor Jenkins Reid
Fiction
This has been a wildly popular book in the last year, but is it worth the hype? I read it to find out.
Monique Grant, a journalist low in the company hierarchy, is randomly given the offer of a lifetime: exclusive interview time with famous Hollywood actress Evelyn Hugo. Through a series of interviews, Monique gets to know Evelyn and her life story from the 50s to the present day, including the story of all seven of her husbands. Monique is a relatable and entertaining narrator. Evelyn proves to be a very interesting and complex character. Monique eventually learns how intimately her life and Evelyn’s are connected in a huge twist.
This book has really high-quality writing and storytelling. The author pulls you in immediately and doesn’t let go until the last page. I basically read it in one sitting—I couldn’t put it down! There is mature language and sexual themes, so it’s a PG-13 level. All in all very entertaining and highly recommended!
