If you’ve never given audiobooks a try, now is a great time. After all, with summer underway and vacations coming up, an audiobook might be just what you need for that long car ride. Here are five of my very favorite audiobooks.

Five Favorite Audiobooks | Librarian List

Peter and the Starcatchers

By Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Junior Audiobook (Recommended for ages 9 and up)

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter series on audio? If you are, you’re going to want to give Peter and the Starcatchers a try. It features the same narrator as the Harry Potter series—the magnificent Jim Dale who I swear can do any voice.

The Wizards of Once

By Cressida Cowell
Junior Audiobook (Recommended for ages 9 and up)

The Wizards of Once is a fantasy story about a wizard boy named Xar and a warrior princess named Wish. It is fabulously narrated by the one-and-only David Tennant whose Scottish accent only enhances the magic and humor of the story. This is a great audiobook for fantasy and magic lovers.

Five Favorite Audiobooks | Librarian List

Hank the Cowdog

By John R. Erickson
Junior Audiobook (Recommended for ages 7 and up)

Are you in the mood to laugh? Look no further than Hank the Cowdog! Narrated by the author himself, this audiobook is sure to produce laughs from adults and kids alike. The voices for the characters are fantastically done, and the music and sound effects only add to the charm and humor.

Five Favorite Audiobooks | Librarian List

The Alchemist

By Paulo Coelho
Audiobook (Recommended for ages 15 and up)

If you are in need of a profound allegory that features an iconic voice talent, this is your audiobook. Actor Jeremy Irons brings the story of a young man in search of his treasure to life through his incredible storytelling.

Five Favorite Audiobooks | Librarian List

Death on the Nile

By Agatha Christie
Audiobook (Recommended for ages 17 and up)

Any Agatha Christie book on audio is fantastic, but Death on the Nile is one of my very favorites. David Suchet is an excellent narrator and voice actor, capturing every murder suspect exquisitely. I love a good mystery as I’m driving in the car, and this one does not disappoint.
