Summer Storytime

Choose Your Own Fantasy Quest

June 7–July 31 | Teen Area

Celebrate our summer of fantasy and adventure by creating your own character and going on an epic quest through the library. Pick up a character sheet in the Teen Area and assign your character different attributes and personality traits. Then start your quest and see where your choices lead you. All those who complete the quest will earn a small prize. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Fairy Tale Take-Home Activity

July 6–10 | Library Entrance

Drop by the library entrance to pick up a fairy tale-themed craft or activity to complete at home. Build three houses and test their strength with huffing and puffing, make a mermaid tail keychain, or solve a fairy tale word scramble. One activity per child. Available while supplies last.

Shakespeare for Kids

July 12, 19, 26 | 4:15 PM | Ashton Auditorium

Kids 5 and up are invited to join Becky and Joel Wallin from BYU’s Young Company for another summer of reenacting Shakespeare plays. No registration required. (July 12 – Richard III, July 19 – The Comedy of Errors, July 26 – King Lear)

Fairy Tale Escape Room

July 12–15 | 9:30 AM–12:30 PM & 5:30 PM–8:30 PM | Sorenson Legacy Room

Once upon a time all the fairy tale villains united to try and stop you from completing the summer reading program! They’ve stolen your magic wand and locked you inside the library courtyard. Will you be able to solve the puzzles in order to escape and live happily ever after?

Fairy Tale Escape will run Monday, July 12 through Thursday, July 15 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. It is for all ages, but we recommend each group have at least one adult with them. You will be able to sign up for the Escape Room when you unlock the Escape Room badge by earning 750 points.

Check it Out! Book Club: El Deafo

July 14 | 7 PM | doTERRA South Lobby

Join us for the monthly book club for children in grades 4–6 and their caregivers. July’s book will be El Deafo by Cece Bell. Registration is required and is limited to 15 students and their caregivers. Register online or at any children’s desk. Once you are registered, you may pick up a reserved copy of the book at the main floor children’s desk.

Summer Reading Finale: Knight Night

July 20 | 6:30 PM | doTERRA South Lobby & Ashton Auditorium

Join us for a night of questing and magic as we form into groups and play Dungeons and Dragons. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the event starts at 7 PM. Costumes welcome and treats provided. Sign up by June 18 at 5 PM. For ages 12–18.

Teen After Hours: Onward

July 17 | 7 PM | Ashton Auditorium

Celebrate the end of summer reading with a screening of Onward (PG, 2020). Doors open at 6:30 PM and the movie will start at 7. Treats provided. Runtime: 1 hr 42 min. For ages 12–18.

Orem Library Book Club

July 21 | 7 PM | Sorenson Legacy Room

Fernea, a newlywed 1950s-era U.S. woman, journeys to live with her husband in a two-room mud hut with no plumbing in rural Iraq.

Tween Scene: Summer Oasis

July 27 | 4 PM | Library Hall Lawn

Celebrate the wonders of water at our Summer Oasis. Learn about the importance of water in your life and for our planet with fun games and activities. And wear your swimsuit! You will get wet! For ages 8–12.
