From 1952 to 1969, the U.S. Air Force conducted an investigation of UFOs under the code name Project Blue Book. Astronomer J. Allen Hynek was the scientific consultant for the project. Initially skeptical of UFO sightings, he eventually came to believe the study of UFOs was worthwhile. Some of the cases Dr. Hynek explored during Project Blue Book are dramatized in this tv series. However, some episodes appear to be entirely made up. For example, Season 2 has Hynek investigating weird happenings on the Skinwalker Ranch in Utah. Although Utah’s Skinwalker Ranch has had reported UFO sightings in more recent years, I am unaware of any investigation of the ranch ever conducted by Project Blue Book. So, although the series says it is “based on true events,” it is actually based very loosely on Hynek’s involvement with Project Blue Book. The series is very entertaining and perfect to binge this summer.
