Cozy & Mossy

Cozy

by Jan Brett
Picture Book

Cozy is a story about a musk ox in Alaska named Cozy who befriends a bunch of other animals. These smaller animals are cold and want Cozy to share his warm coat with them.

This book reminded me a lot of Jan Brett’s The Mitten. More and more animals pile in, and it is so charming when Cozy tells them each his house rules and adds to them as more animals come. Brett’s drawings are beautiful as always, and the back panel shares a little bit about musk oxen and how interesting they are.

Mossy & Cozy

Mossy

by Jan Brett
Picture Book

Mossy tells the story of an eastern box turtle named Mossy who grows a garden on her shell. She is taken from her home to be in a museum, and is admired by all, but she misses her home. The ending is a wonderful twist, very clever, that all ages will enjoy.

I really enjoyed reading Mossy. The artwork is incredible! The box turtles look so wonderful, and so do the plants. It was fun that the story revolved around Mossy and her feelings, but also included humans in it as well. It’s a very charming book, and even has a little turtle romance.
